Wild White Indigo

Mandy's Camera 2013 323.JPG

Planting your seeds.

Indigo is one of the showier prairie plants, and also quite easy to grow.  A member of the legume family, this plant has rounded leaves reminiscent of sweet pea, and long spires of white flowers on a purple-tinged stem.  Once the flowers mature, green seed pods appear, turning deep black-purple as they ripen.  This plant will add winter interest as well as a showy, creamy-white flower display.  Non-aggressive and long-lived, this plant is great for landscaping.  This hearty, non-aggressive generalist is well-suited to a variety of moisture, light, and soil conditions.  Provides food and habitat year-round.  Great for flower garden plantings.

Planting instructions:  In fall, sow seed directly on bare ground.  In spring, surface sow seed on bare ground and lightly press into soil.  Can be sown indoors and planted out when weather permits.

Not planting right away?  Store the seeds in the refrigerator.
